Coastal Wedding Trends in 2022

Coastal weddings in New England are often filled with shades of blue and greens in muted tones accented by peaches and corals. This dreamy color palette speaks to the moody Narragansett Bay and Nor’Eastern-worn Colonial houses. In 2022 and 2023, we are seeing these five new dynamic trends for our New England weddings, and we are SO excited! From layered looks to customized details, we at Designed by Delsie are helping our brides implement unique color combinations for their coastal weddings on the east and west coasts and abroad.

A Hacienda Look

This lively, colorful style is perfect for west and east coast events or even destination weddings. The Hacienda style is achieved by layering textures, patterns, and colors. Try varying the color of the napkins and glasses or mixing patterns. If you do this, aim to keep the colors similar while varying textures. The result will be a cohesive, festive effect that is not busy. We also love the mixture of table types. Try using both round and farm tables with different colored linens to add dimension to a room.

Layered Place Settings

More elaborate place settings with a layered cohesive look are prevalent for upcoming seasons. We are seeing place settings go from having a single plate to having two to three plates set on a charger and topped with a napkin and menu. This place setting style is likely reflecting the change in food styles we are also seeing…

Cocktail Events and Interactive Food Stations

We extroverts have missed mingling! It’s time to engage with people and with your food. Creative serving styles make food into the entertainment at your wedding. From passed hor’d’ouvres to tapas, sharing is a common thread. Sharing meals is an integral part of the Pillars of Delsie Service Standards. Interactive and shared meals draw people together in conversation and facilitate a welcoming environment.

It is important to remember, however, that proper serving ware is crucial. Serving a Bay scallop with lemon and herbs on a ceramic spoon tableside or passed is an excellent start to a meal. Meanwhile, this same morsel served on a large plate that already has marinara on it might not be as pleasant for your guests.

Chairs with Character

Chairs in the past were often standard offerings by the venue, perhaps with a chair cover in a semi-custom color. These options often left couples frustrated with their lack of customization and ability to match their preferred design. Now chairs have been elevated to structural design elements that elevate venue spaces. This shift has resulted in a customized feel for each individual couple and creates dimension and texture in the design.

Hanging Floral Installations 

These floral installations draw the eye up and make the space feel larger. They also create a unique and luxurious vibe while adding a dreamy feel. Try adding florals for a pop of color or keeping them full of greenery for a whimsical aesthetic. We also recommend adding unexpected florals like tropical greenery (palms or monstera leaves) and orchids for an unexpected texture.

The goal for many brides is to still speak to the classic elegance of Newport while creating an experiential event for their brides. Many couples in 2022 aim to create dynamic social environments that are fun and infused with personality. Weddings in 2022 are often the first time couples are getting together with their loved ones, and it is exciting to now have the opportunity to create events that are entertaining and rewarding celebrations of life.
